Teacher Forum
Officials from the various school districts offering Phased-Retirement and/or DROP programs - both intended to maintain quality teachers, while making huge pay increases possible - are truly perplexed that the masses that qualify for these programs are unwilling to avail themselves! Meanwhile, I do not know of any administrators(there may be a few, I guess), that are eligible, that are NOT in the programs!
Teachers that I have spoken with claim everything from 'I'm not ready to retire' to 'I don't trust that my Principal would keep me on!' These from teachers with outstanding records, during times of teacher shortages, and the programs were intended specifically for these teachers! I suppose that you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it think!
