FREEDOMLAND - on DVD - starring Samuel L Jackson, Julianne Moore, Ron Eldard and Edie Falco

     Brenda Martin(Julianne Moore) is a reformed drug user, reporting that she was the victim of a carjacking, in which her son remains an unwitting kidnap victim.  Det. Council(Samuel L. Jackson) is the detective trying to solve the crime, among others, that will otherwise lead to rioting in this racially-intensified urban area.  Danny Martin(Ron Eldard), Brenda's brother, is the protective, but bigoted police officer, trying to get his nephew back from the alleged carjacker, and Edie Falco plays a mother whose own son had been kidnapped ten years earlier, with no resolution, and started her own child-find group - now assisting to find 4 year-old Cory Martin.
     The human conditions portrayed are very real, unfortunately, and the acting is sometimes intense.  While the script may meander, distractively and unrealistically, the twists are purposeful and plausible.  The weakest of the four leads may well be Jackson, as Moore, Eldard and Falco are on-the-mark!  While this film did not do well at the theater box office, it may be a hit on DVD, and is certainly worth the rental price!
