Az I Eat It....

North - Modern Italian Cuisine - located at the SW corner of  W. 67th Ave and SR101 Loop(AJ's Plaza)

Celebrating our 23rd Anniversary, and armed with $100 in gift cards from the Bummers/Jarvinens(retirement gift), my family decided to try this highly regarded, national chain restaurant, on a Sunday evening.  The menu did not fully explain what each item actually was, so we had to depend on the young waiter for his 'expertise'(he had none!)
For an appetizer, I ordered the Zucca Chips($5), expecting to receive potato chip-sized deep-fried zucchini.  Instead, we received less-than-paper-thin, tiny 'chips,' making them difficult to handle or eat!  Waste of money!
We then started with a spicy, sausage minestrone soup($6).  I liked it, but Linda, Mike and Arky2 did not - not even finishing theirs.  Two tiny 'loaves' of bread(not warmed), with tomato-basil butter(ugh!), were brought to the table.  I was not impressed, either.  I don't know what we were expecting, but it started a trend!
I ordered the Seared Scallops, Orzo with Saffron Brodo($19) - and I thought that it was pretty good!  The scallops were done quite well, the broth was flavorful, and the orzo pasta was cooked just-right!  Both sons ordered the Salmon, Roasted Squash and Sweet Onions, while Linda ordered the 'Not Your Typical' Chicken Lasagna.  Yeah, right!  While their entrees were pleasingly presented, they did not represent what they thought they might be eating - so they didn't - well, not much, anyway!   Very disappointing - call us 'Old-Fashioned Italians!'
We ended with a complimentary dessert - one, to be shared - of ice cream over chocolate cake, adorned with chocolate syrup(Happy Anniversary!), and raspberries - and it truly was great!  So, if you want to try North, I suggest you bring a Modern-Italian mind-set, tell them it is a special event, and go right to the dessert!  Mangia!
