The Reel Deal
The Passion of the Christ(on DVD), and Apocolypto(coming soon, to a Mosque near you) - Directed by Mel Gibson
When this film originally hit the theatres, it was acknowledged that Gibson's father was a 'devout' anti-Semite, and both Jews and Catholics protested its release, fearing the debasing of their religions. Gibson assured the public that he was not his father, and that this film was not meant to demean either religion, but was only an artistic expression that he felt would enlighten his viewing audiences to a world-changing historic event. To date, this is one of the top ten all-time revenue-grossing films.
Fast-forward your DVD player to late-July, 2006, when Gibson was arrested for suspicion of DUI. His alleged profanity-laced tirade to the arresting Officers(alleged, huh?) blamed the Jews for everything that is wrong with the World. Apparently sensing a public backlash, he issued an apology, citing recurring alcoholism problems, and iterated that he did not mean what he had 'allegedly' said. In other words, "Please don't hate me for saying something 'out of character' while 'under the influence,' lest you adversely influence the 'Cha-Ching' for my up-coming Apocolypto release!"
I have not seen The Passion, and I never had intended to, but now, I also will not see Apocolypto. Evidently, what the public had preconceived, as reality, was true. Gibson was trying to make a ton of money, while defiling religions that he has a bigotry towards - and he did! In reality, the apple(Mel) doesn't fall far from the tree(his father) - and this apple is rotten to the core! There's only one thing worse than biting into an apple and finding a worm - biting into an apple and finding half of a worm! Save your money. That worm!
