Az I Play It....
I've never really cared, one way or the other, about the 'infamous' Bill Bidwill, and his NFL Cardinals franchise, before or after he moved here from St. Louis(which was glad to get rid of him!) I consider myself a football fan - but not a fanatic. So why do I feel animosity towards this man now?
This NFL owner literally cried, for 18 years, about the money he was losing(really just not making as much as other owners), by not having his own stadium, yet he never lost money(television and other shared revenueswere abundant.) He cried about not having the money(actually not wanting to spend his own $$$) to build his own stadium - so the taxpayers finally approved $330M of the $450M necessary for his state-of-the-art UFO-in-the-desert. He has now exhibited his 'gratefulness' to the Valley of the Sun - by making an NFL owner's vote unanimous, that local news video cameras shall NOT be allowed into any televised NFL games! Local affiliates must pay the NFL for each clip that they would like to show, and cannot take their own footage to create their own individual or team highlights! Nationally televised games have more restrictions!
Hey, Billy - would it have really destroyed your credibility to have the final vote be 31 - 1, instead of 32 - 0? Yeah, you got lucky! You talked the taxpayers into building you a facility with a retractable dome - in the desert(You and the D'Backs make the locals look stupid!), and then included a movable playing field! It only cost an extra $150M to $200M for those two items! You sold out every home game, so more income from a variety of sources is now possible. But you had better field a winner - THIS year - or you will lose most of your fanbase! You have not even sold the naming rights to the stadium, as no one really wants to be associated with this team for the kind of money that you want. You may be able to fool Joe Taxpayer, but you cannot fool Joe Businessman! The regular season has not yet begun and, already, it's time for the Cards to punt!
