The Reel Deal

The Illusionist - starring Jessica Biel, Edward Norton, and Paul Giamatti

The 'love story' genre appears to have returned!  But is it just an illusion?

Vienna, Austria, around the early 1900's - Norton is Eisenheim, the Illusionist, grown up from his humble, carpenter beginnings, and reconnects with Sophia(Biel), of royalty, groomed to be the kingdom's next Princess, until she finds her true love has returned.  Together, they create an illusion that will free them, to be together, and rid the kingdom of her betrothed,  'evil Prince.'  Giamatti is the prospective Chief of Police, who must decide what is the worse fate - being lackey to a murdering Prince, or arresting an Illusionist, who is attempting to change the history of the Realm, while living his own dreams?

While the answers were apparent(to Linda and me, anyway - others told us that they did not 'get it' until the very end), well before the end of the film, we were thoroughly entertained - the love story and the original illusions are well-planned, well-played and well-presented!  A modern-day 'The Sting.'  It only received 2 1/2 Stars from Bill Muller(Az. Repulsive), but he is wrong - again!
