Az I Play It....
The Bidwill family, owners of the NFL's Az Cardinals, is showing its true colors - green, not red! These money-hungry misers duped the public into building them a stadium, with the promise of using the newly generated revenues to create a winning team. To date, they are still $10M under the NFL salary cap, and have just accepted a $154M windfall, from the Apollo Group, for the right to name the 'UFO in the Desert' the 'University of Phoenix Stadium,' or 'UPS.' Together with the always dismal performance of the Cards offensive line, we now have what could forever be known as 'Bidwill's UPS and DOWNS!'
And I do not feel too bad for the gullible City of Glendale, as they should have remembered how UPSet the City of Phoenix was, when the Phoenix Cardinals became the Arizona Cardinals. It was, supposedly, about not disenfranchising the rest of Arizona - and selling more tickets! Glendale should not have trusted attorney Michael Bidwill to take their concerns and efforts into consideration - and should have ponied up the money to name the stadium the 'Glendale People's Stadium' - then, at least the 'GPS' would still locate Glendale on the map!
And about those tickets - why would anyone continue to believe that the team will be successful? Every home game is sold out! Matt Leinert will meet the same fate as all of the QB's before him - injury and/or despair! And if you bought tickets thinking that you will get Super Bowl tickets, well you are naive. Only ten percent(6,000) of the total stadium will be on sale for the public - by lottery - to owners of the most expensive tickets! The remaining tickets(almost 60,000) are distributed by the NFL to sponsors and league personnel.
I had previously predicted that with addition of Edgerrin James and a healthy Kurt Warner, the Cards would get to
a 7-9 season. Now, I do not see them winning more than five games - if that! Leinert will get valuable experience - until he is injured, and the same inept offensive linemen, regardless of position shuffling, will reappear next season as 'another year more experienced' - a story heard for the past 19 years!
In the meantime, enjoy UPS(OOPS?), and use your GPS to find the Cardinals somewhere in the cellar!
