The Reel Deal

The Prestige - starring Hugh Jackman, Michael Caine, Christian Bale, Piper Perabo, Rebecca Hall, Scarlett Johansson

Two magicians, vying for reknown in late 19th century, creating bigger and better illusions, as technology will allow.  A great idea that went magically awry!  Instead of one-upmanship, this turned into a Spy vs. Spy parody, such as one would see in Mad Magazine, or on SNL.  Too bad, because Michael Caine was great in his role as promoter/manager, and Johansson is always easy on the eyes.  Rebecca Hall does a credible job as the wife of Jackman's character, but the script - and including historical figures such as Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison to attain believability - becomes stupid as the film wears on!

Believe me, this is one film that should just disappear!
