The Reel Deal

Babel(Rated 'R' for Nudity, Sexuality, and Violence) - starring Cate Blanchett and Brad Pitt

Three seemingly unconnected events - a couple visiting Morocco, a Japanese teenager seeking love and independence, and a nanny - taking two American children to her nephew's wedding, in her native Mexico, when she can find no one else to tend to them.  Each scenario worthy of its own exposure, but when interrelated, they comprise a riveting tale of human life experiences.

While Blanchett and Pitt take top-billing, their roles are no more important, or well-played, than the rest of the cast, who are mostly unknown in America.   While touring Morocco, Susan(Blanchett) is unintentionally shot, by an irresponsible Moroccan youth, igniting an international incident.  Without giving anything away, the story leaps from Morocco to Mexico to Japan, and as each segment concludes - it compels the next.  While it sometimes seems that the tale may be disjointed, when it is finished, the viewer is satisfied that all is complete!
At 2 hours and 22 minutes, the only seat-squirming was from the anticipation of what would happen next!  On the order of 'Crash,' there has been Academy Award buzz for Babel.   It could happen!
