The Reel Deal

Hairspray the Movie - starring Nikki Blonsky, John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Queen Latifah, Zac Efron, Elijah Kelley, Amanda Bynes, James Marsden, Brittany Snow, Allison Janney, and many more - too numerous to list!

This musical biopic of Baltimore's 1960's desegregation efforts does what last year's 'Dreamgirls' failed to do.  You genuinely care about the characters - all of them!  With music and dance as the coagulate for the races and the generations, this is not a very good film - it is a very GREAT film!  The script, the acting, the music and dance choreography - along with the messages of the 1960's American social revolution, and today's social evolution - this movie will make you laugh and cry, sing and dance - from the opening until the end of the final credits - two hours of pure entertainment!(Amanda Bynes does more to bring back the one-cent sucker than did Telly Savalas' Kojak!)

The soundtrack is a must-have, and you will be disappointed to not see this on the big-screen.  Linda and I saw it at the early($5) showing, and I feel as if we cheated the producers - I would have paid $20 to see it!  The Golden Globes and the Academy Awards will be generous in honoring this masterpiece, with more nominations and awards than 'Chicago!'  It is not simply one of the best films of the year, but one for the ages - an up-dated Grease, or Saturday Night Fever(also Travolta classics), one of the best film adaptations of any genre - in a very long time!
