Az I Play It....

"The fans want it!" is the reason that the Arizona Diamondbacks will spend up to $12M, and change the infrastructure of Chase Field(formerly Bank One Ballpark) to accommodate the installation of the largest, most technologically superior scoreboard in Major League Baseball, according to team officials.  This from the same team that is always crying poverty when it is time to sign free-agent players, including their own, because of escalating salaries, deferred payments still owed to former players, etc.

Instead of bringing back 40-something-year-old retreads, at $16M/year, or incapable retreads(B.H. Kim), at any price, why not be truthful - just tell the fans that you have enough money to win another World Series Championship, but would rather repay initial and current investors, because MLB shared-revenues are enough to keep ownership happy(Sound familiar, Mr. Bidwill?)

When the D'Backs fall from playoff contention this September(they currently lead the NL West division, as well as all Wild Card contenders), they may regret their decision to 'invest' in off-the-field improvements.  And while the future will appear bigger and brighter(it's the mirrors), from this Jumbo-strocity, the already depleted fanbase will continue to fade-to-black!
