Az I See It....

Part One - In a recent Arizona Republic front-page story, it is reported that Mexican and Colombian drug cartels are out-gunning U.S. border patrols, with high-capacity, high-powered military weaponry.  Under the same story, which finishes on page A6, another headline proclaims that U.S. border agents are being newly-armed with non-lethal paintball guns and pepperspray weapons(No joke - October 3, 2007 edition!)....The U.S. Army continues to meet its monthly recruitment goals, by offering various, and enticing(?) monetary incentives - in this time of war - further proving the lack of education and dire poverty afflicting our nation's youth!....Advocates are imploring Congress to end government subsidies to pro sports teams, in the face of critical shortages for building and repair of schools and infrastructure.  In Arizona, the argument is shrugged-off, because our youth is being prepared to be fast-food & beer vendors - key career training for the under-educated!....In related news, Tom Horne is at it again, proclaiming the purpose of high school is not to prepare students for higher education(yeah - he said that), but to ensure that they graduate as functional illiterates, in response to experts' criticism that there is no significant purpose to AIMS testing!....New methods of funding colleges are being sought.  'Performance funding' - financing the schools according to student achievement, appears to be emerging as a possibility.  This would only serve to increase grade inflation and falsification of program accountability - you know, like presently, in our public el-hi schools!....In America, Arizona ranks first in identity theft.  The problem will only worsen as more 'residents' are named 'Juan' and 'Gonzales!'....Social Security at age 62 may soon become a thing of the past, as an economist at the Center for Retirement, at Boston College, promotes that mandating a much later 'early' payout will assist in saving benefits for future generations, while allowing older eligibles to work longer - and 'enjoy' a more secure retirement(anyone seen my walker?)....A recent study - the largest of its kind - discloses that most kids are getting bad medical care, while the rest are getting none!....In Colorado, a 6-year-old crashed his grandmother's car into a transformer, while attempting to drive to Applebee's.  Grandma was visibly upset, because she had wanted him to go to TGIF!....President Bush kept his promise - he vetoed the Children's Health Insurance Program(CHIP), commenting that it was too expensive.  House Representatives failed to over-ride the veto, proving once again that there are no hemorrhoids in Congress.  They are perfect asses!....
