More scare tactics - the U.S. Defense Department is warning of massive lay-offs, along with higher unemployment with the return of approximately 165,000 military personnel, if Congress does not approve Bush's war-fund budget soon. War-time always creates employment opportunities, in many industrial sectors, but I'll bet there are almost 4,000 American GI's that would have been glad to be laid-off, considering their alternative!....Saudi judges doubled the penalty for a rape VICTIM, because she went to the media to appeal the harsh sentence that SHE received, and the light sentence that her SEVEN rapists received! Her sentence was doubled, to 6 months in jail and 200 lashes, while her rapists' sentences increased from seven cases of beer to one full keg!....Looking for some fun-on-a-budget, on a Monday evening? Open-mike night, at the Blue Bird Cafe, is one of Music City's greatest traditions!....Efforts are underway to recall Sheriff Joe Arpaio and Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas, because of their insistence on enforcing federal illegal-immigration laws, when most other Arizona political and law-enforcement agencies refuse to do so. Of the 150,000 signatures required, 149,000 of them will likely be illegal!....Southwest Airlines has begun new boarding procedures. The only differences are that you wait in line for a few minutes(okay, it is better), instead of an hour, and 'jockeying-for-position' is lessened, for attaining a desired seat. Counterproductive is the removal of many gate-area seats, for the placement of numbered, uncomfortably close, monolithic stations, where passengers are asked to line-up just prior to boarding. All seating areas are now extremely uncomfortable, and there is not enough room for passengers to stand 'between-the-poles.' The biggest hindrance to faster boarding is not entering the gate, but rather entering the plane, as passengers struggle to stow carry-ons, after making their seat selections. It would be much more passenger-friendly(their initial intent, we are told) to simply call the numbers of the passengers, as most other airlines do, and allow for NO standing lines - thereby retaining comfort in gate areas, and eliminating all standing time! Southwest is still the best of the airlines, based on price, non-stop availability, and friendliness, but this idea doesn't fly!....George Bush pardoned two turkeys, May & Flower, that were delivered to the White House, from outside the D.C. area. That's because he's already assured the safety of all of the D.C turkeys!....Happy Thanksgiving!
