Who knew how the Cold War actually ended? And who knows, maybe the Iraq War will end the same way?! Tom Hanks is Charlie Wilson, a small-town Texas Congressman, intent on facilitating the demise of the USSR, and by any means possible. Together, Hoffman(CIA operative), and Roberts(rich, widowed Texas political financier) conspire to bring about the fall of the Soviet Union, through funding the Afghanistan resistance army. This recounting of actual events is as serious as it is comical, and sends hope to all who witness the 'behind-the-scenes' workings of the 'Clandestine Services' that 'there is more where that came from!'
This film is nominated for several Golden Globes, but none of it is worthy in and of itself. It is, however, a pleasant journey into a historical event that most never realized, and is certainly worthy of your entertainment dollars!
