Az I Teach It....

-Imagine - Arizona's soon-to-be-deposed Education un-Super-Intendent, Tom Horne, says he wants to hear from teachers!  He is asking for 'input' on what to do to increase morale and to retain competent, quality teachers(sounds like a typical school district farce)  Here's the catch - the offer is good for only 30 days.  After that, he'll ignore us, again, like he has since taking office in 2003.  Send your e-mail to:  makemylifeeasier@azed.gov     Let him have it - the clock is ticking!

-It is already being emphasized that the vote for public school redistricting will fail, because of an 'overloaded' November presidential ballot, and that the electorate will be 'overwhelmed' with other ballot initiatives, etc.  Are these voters the same adults that schools encourage to participate in the development and implementation of public school curriculum and policy?   And then it will be 'our fault!'  It's always 'our fault!'  That's the simple justification!

-Teacher shortages threaten the quality of Arizona education.  Among the reasons - low pay, expensive to advance, poor morale, and lack of administrative support.  Even substitutes, of which the pool is typically retirees, shun availability for the same reasons!

-Once again, Arizona teacher salaries lag far behind the national average, and ranks 40th among the states in education, according to Quality Counts 2008, due to lack of funding a statewide teacher mentoring program, and not requiring schools to limit elementary class sizes, and remains well below average in funding its schools!(Naw - the administration says it's the teachers!)

-An English professor wrote the words:  'Woman without her man is nothing' on the blackboard, and directed the students to punctuate it.  The mens' response:  'Woman, without her man, is nothing!'  The women countered:  'Woman!  Without her, man is nothing!'

-No word in the English language rhymes with month, orange, silver or purple!
