Az I Teach It....

- The Arizona legislature wants to opt out of NCLB, a decision that will cost Arizona at least $600M annually, because they cannot improve one of the worst educational systems in the nation and cannot attain NCLB standards.  They also cannot conceive of how to replace the $600M of federal funds.  Well, I have an idea - a lunch toll!  Just add fifty cents to the cost of each student lunch(they'd only spend it on junk anyway!), and pave the road to academic success!

- Legislation that would allow K-12 teachers to carry  guns onto campuses has been halted, meaning that students will remain the only persons bringing weapons onto school grounds!

- Arizona remains at the bottom of U.S. states in education funding, and it is emphasized that school administration expenses also rank at the bottom.  Again, the enormity of district office administrative costs is deliberately ignored, leaving the public to feel wrongfully sympathetic for administration, while diverting attention from the most obvious solution for accessible classroom funds!

- The Roosevelt district is heading for State intervention.  Parents are vocal in their division of this solution to a failing district, with some parents advocating for 'good neighborhood schools,' while others 'support their elected school board and want to maintain local control.'  Huh?

- Mesa schools have the highest high school graduation rate in the country - 77%.  In a state where academic standards are among the lowest in the nation, and the AIMS tests are continually dumbed-down and the passing scores lowered, Mesa officials should be proud!  Huh #2?
