- Concerned that your grocery bill has risen, by as much as twenty percent in some states? We were told that high energy prices were to blame. Who told us? Corporate America, the oil companies and OPEC, and the speculators! Wouldn't you then expect consumer prices to fall, as energy prices are now lower than they were one year ago? Well, you set your expectations too high!
Corporate America has decided to recoup their losses, before passing on any lower prices to consumer America. And, afterall, we still need to buy the same items hat we were forced to pay higher prices for. Big Oil has made enough profit to allow them to buy into any 'green' resource they can replace future lost oil sales with. OPEC, previously disavowing any kowledge or reason why oil should be higher than $70/barrel, will now cut production in an attempt to maintain an $80/barrel minimum. And the speculators - they have moved on. After cutting the throats of global consumerism, they are now intent on gutting the stock market,, until something better comes along on which to speculate!
And don't forget your 'friendly skies!' High jet fuel prices appropriately resulted in airlines charging extra fees(ie., baggage, blankets, priority seating, etc.), higher fares, frequent flier cutbacks, etc. When will those be rolled-back? When pigs fly!
