Prologue: Remember - Az. School Tax Credits, Az. Private School Tuition Tax Credits, and Az. Military Family Relief Fund Tax Credits must be contributed by December 31st. If you are, or know a coach, it makes sense to contribute to your program; same if you know a private school student; and ditto for our underserved military personnel! And you come out ahead, because you can claim the contribution as a deduction on your Federal taxes, too!
National: The Bush Administration's economic policies are working! The President and Mrs. Bush were recently able to afford a home in a posh Dallas suburb, that was previously valued at more than $10M, for only $2.1M. He's not so dumb after all!....The UAW will not agree to wage or benefit cuts, in order to allow Senate approval of a
Big 3 Automakers bailout. Let's see, now - the auto industry is supposed to produce 'green' vehicles, that the unemployed masses could not afford when they were working? Duh!....Check out these figures: After 9/11/01, Ford contributed $10M to the American Red Cross(ARC); GM - $10M to the ARC, and a fleet of vans SUVs and trucks; Daimler Chrysler - $10M to the support of victims and their children; Harley Davidson - $1M and 30 new motorcycles to NYPD; Volkswagon - $2M for the assistance of the children and victims; Hyundai - $300K to the ARC. Audi, BMW, Daewoo, Fiat, Honda, Isuzu, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Porsche, Subaru, Suzuki - NADA - NOTHING - ZILCH! Fuel for thought!(Thanks, Mark!)
State: Sheriff Joe is getting a bad rap in the press - as usual. Since he and Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas have cracked down on illegal immigrants, the violent crime rate has decreased in direct proportion. Lesser crimes have increased due to slumping economic conditions. Go figure!....The population of Arizona grew only 1.6%, according to the most recent census, and the majority of the growth due to the birthrate, not the border!....Sandra Dowling, Maricopa County Schools Superintendant, has filed suit against the county to recover legal fees after the county agreed to drop all but one misdemeanor charge against her. The county should now reinstate the prior charges, and let her know how those attorney's fees benefitted her!
Epilogue: The Tucson Unified School District has dropped its foreign language requirement for graduation. It seems English was just too difficult for most students! Mexican-Spanish will now be the only requirement!
