Az I See It....

Prologue:  No matter your age, if you think it is safer to drive slower in the right freeway lane when texting or talking on your cellphone, you are wrong.  Possibly DEAD wrong!

State:  President-Elect Obama has proposed bailout proposals for most economic sectors, but the Arizona Legislature still cannot figure out how to give all of the voter-approved Proposition 301 monies to teachers.  Try this:  ALL Prop 301 monies will be equally divided among ALL eligible staff, without ANY additional job requirements or administrative oversight!....Senator-Elect Russell Pierce(R-Mesa) says he expects the State Legislature will circumvent voters' recent rejection of Prop 200, and will extend the ability of the Payday Loan industry to continue operations, anyway.  He says the fate of the Payday industry is best left to "honest debate" in the legislature.  When was the last time your elected officials could be trusted to have an 'honest debate' about anything?....Arizona will require a $25 permit for most ATVs, quads and dirt bikes, beginning January 1, 2009.  The legislature will have an 'honest debate' on permits for using baby carriages, tricycles, and walkers for the elderly/infirm on public walkways, when they reconvene in mid-January!

Local:  The City of Phoenix has just raised taxes again, in another attempt to eliminate an impending $2B deficit, by raising the cost of city parking meters to $1.50/hr - up from $.60/hr - with the additional income expected to be $1.1M for the general fund.  Except for Los Angeles, Phoenix will now boast the highest city parking rates in the nation.  At a time when Phoenix is one of the poorest cities, nationally.  Only 249 more additional taxes to go!....Tacitly, officials are encouraging usage of the new Metro rapid transit system, which is also considering a rate increase, even before they begin service!  Hey - it's Christmas, for Pete's sake!  Hear the Jingle Bells?  Cha Ching!  Cha Ching!  Cha Ching!....Five prominent land investors have decided it was better to renege on their Desert Ridge area real estate, than to continue making payments for their investments.  More than 1,000 acres will be returned to the state's authority, as these developers are allowed to simply walk away from their legal obligations - with no penalties - and leaving future contracted infrastructure plans in shambles!  When the economy improves, these same investors will be allowed to re-purchase these lands - at much lesser prices, no doubt - and continue their consumer onslaught!
