- Education officials report that approximately 25 thousand Arizona students are homeless - about equal to the same number that annually graduate high school as illiterates!
- State-mandated AIMS test results show insignificantly-slight improvements(approximately 1%), in both math and reading, over 2008 test scores, prompting Public School Stupid-Intendent Tom Horne to revel in the fact that the tests were not dumbed-down this past year, as they had been each year previously. There was a significant problem with the writing portion of the tests, however, as scores sky-rocketed twenty percentage points, due to subjective scoring errors, and other as-yet undetermined factors!
- We are saddened to hear of the too-soon passing of former Deer Valley Unified teacher(Mirage Elementary) Patti Sue Grocott, due to cancer. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, July 18th(10:00am), at Shadow Rock United Church of Christ(12861 N. 8th Avenue, Phx) In lieu of flowers, a family request has been made to send donations to Hospice of the Valley.
