Az I Teach It....

- President Obama - yeah, yeah - Barack Obama(there's only one President Obama in the world!) has announced a nationwide school contest with $5B as the prize fund.  The idea is for each state to create more and improved teaching.  Some Arizona school districts have already announced the creation of new administrative positions to monitor the process!  Here comes another round of Cooperative Learning!

- Stu Starky, a Roosevelt District Math teacher, and former Senate seat challenger to incumbent John McCain, has announced that he will resign at the end of this school year to prepare his candidacy for the position of Governor of Alaska!

- Due to continued AIMS test fallibility, students will soon be able to receive their high school diplomas with as yet undetermined passing scores on their SATs or ACT tests.  Or if they can make correct change for a dollar!

- Chandler Unified Superintendent Camille Casteel is urging her teachers to become politically active, to further the cause of education at the state level.  In fact, statewide, teachers are being encouraged to do the same - but only at the state level, and not at the local levels where picketing, good faith negotiating and other forms of activity are considered to be agitative, rebellious, and unprofessional - and are cause for dismissal.  And do not expect administration to lobby legislators, as they are alre5ady well-compensated, well-staffed and economically protected!

- "How do you make it through the day, when you haven't even got time to get to the bathroom?" asked the visiting Legislator.  The teacher replied, "Depends!"
