Az I Use It....

- HLN's consumer advocate, Clark Howard, says "NO!" to joining warehouse clubs, such as Sam's Club, Costco, and BJ's, because people may spend too much - leading to waste and higher actual expenses.  NOT TRUE!  It has been my personal experience that even if you buy more than will be used, you will save money in the long run - getting more product for much less money - making waste still regrettable, but certainly still less expensive!

- Predominant tip to save money - set air conditioner higher, saving 10% on electricity, for every 2 degrees.  Trouble is, room temperature is 72 degrees, and I have been in some senior friends' homes where house is kept at 80 degrees or hotter - and it is possibly deathly warm!  Set AC where it is comfortable, so hat you don't have to strip down and put the fan on high setting.  See my Mom's advice, below!

- It is time for the 2010 Entertainment Book to be sold around the nation.  For about $25, you will receive at least hundreds of dollars in discounts - but page through your local edition before buying, so that you can determine if coupons will be usable for you!

- To dispel rampant, politically incorrect rumors of eminent economic and social demise, I will repeat Economics 101:

A rich man drives into a small, economically depressed town, goes into the local hotel and lays a $100 bill on the counter, saying he will go upstairs to check out the rooms.  The hotel manager runs to his grocer and pays his $100 debt.  The grocer then runs to his produce supplier to pay his $100 debt.  The produce supplier then runs to the farmer and pays his $100 debt.  The farmer runs to the local prostitute to pay his $100 debt, who then runs to the hotel to pay her $100 room rental debt.  The rich man then comes downstairs, decides he will not stay, and takes back his $100 bill.  The townspeople are now debt-free, yet no one actually earned any money to pay their debts.
This is how the economy actually runs, so when you hear that the 10-year projected deficit is approaching $9T, do not believe that anything will change, as it is all speculation - in theory and in practice.  As my Mother is fond of saying, "Live a good life.  Don't scrimp on yourself.  People die further in debt than we'll ever be!"  Thanks, Mom!
