Az I Teach It....

- Education in Arizona - as bad as it is - is about to become MUCH worse!  The legislature has passed a little publicized law that accomplishes what local school boards have been seeking since the introduction of teacher unions and associations - that banishment of 'seniority!'  As an aside, it was added that districts must no longer provide contracts by the previously mandated May 15th deadline(which most districts ignored, anyway!)
What does this mean?  Without seniority, higher-salaried teachers may now be dismissed much more easily, such as when it becomes necessary to surplus staff by specific area, grade level, etc.  'Just cause' requirement for dismissal is now almost moot.  Secondly, teachers will not be able to apply for employment in any other Arizona district, as they will be deemed to be under continuing contract in their present district - until they receive notice of unemployment, possibly as late as the day before the new school-year begins!
Please contact your legislators to repeal this law - and be sure to thank Gov. Brewer for signing it, and Public School Stupid-as-Dirt Tom Horne for not publicizing and denouncing this idiotic legislation, before it hit deranged Governor Brewer's desk!
