Secretariat(rated PG) - starring Diane Lane, John Malkovich, Nelsan Ellis and Margo Martindale
The true story of Secretariat(Big Red), one of the greatest race horses of all time - a trip down Memory Lane for the Boomer Generation, and a great source of history, entertainment, and inspiration for personal growth for generations to come!
Penny Chenery Tweety(Lane) inherits a bankrupted horse farm, replete with its staff and quarry. Refusing to concede to overwhelming pressures - both personal and financial - and with the help of trainer Lucien Lauren(Malkovich), she not only 'saves the farm,' but changes the world of sports in general, and horse racing in specific.
Lane is splendid, in her portrayal of Tweety, Malkovich is typically superb in this supportive role, and while the script is sometimes cliched - even occasionally poor - this two-hour film is one of the best values for your entertainment dollars - and I wish I had seen it sooner! And I'll lay odds that the Beck Family will be thoroughly impressed with the entertainment and social/family values of this film, if they haven't already seen it!
