National: NYC taxi regulators will soon propose a new, "professional" dress code for cabbies. The cabbies threaten to strike if the new code mandates showers or any other standard of personal hygiene!....The U.S. Dept. of Defense is ready to change the Terror-Alert System from the current 5-color alert system to just two - Straight or Gay!....U.S. lawmakers will attempt changing the taxation structure to get the economy out of debt. It appears that the only sticking point is how to make it look less like 'the rich get richer and the poor get poorer!....If you thought the 'change' that President Obama brought was what was left in your pockets, well, the new Republican regime has vowed to take whatever change you may have left. Extended unemployment benefits - GONE! Stimulus funds - GONE! Obamacare - GONE! Obama has proposed a 2-year freeze on federal employee wages - but it cannot include Congress, which automatically votes itself pay increases, annually!....Loss of Stimulus funds, however expensive, will put tens of thousands of public employees on welfare, specifically, but not limited to, teachers, firemen, and policemen!....If every member of Congress was eliminated from office, leaving without their medical or pension benefits, the federal deficit would be eliminated in five years!(give or take a few!)....Liberals advocate to 'help the masses, at any cost,' while conservatives advocate to 'Let them eat cake, but I'm not paying for it!'....Although fighting HIV is a noble and worthy crusade, let's not give in to celebrities such as Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Ryan Seacrest, Usher, and Justin Timberlake, who have declared that they will refrain from tweeting until their followers donate $1M to the cause. Each of them could well afford to donate as least as much, and keeping them off of Twitter sounds like a pretty good trade-off!
State/Local: Arizona has at least temporarily suspended executions, unless, of course, you need an organ transplant - at least temporarily!....Republican lawmakers want to change the Az. Constitution to be able to reduce public pension system payouts, and may bring it to the voters. These are the same Republican lawmakers that are refusing to accept $7B in matching funds, from the feds, because they do not want to find $7B for AHCCCS, Arizona's Medicaid for the poor program, rather deferring the problem to local morticians!....Arizona government officials' pensions have risen 325%, since 2000, the same percentage increase in citizens lined up at local food banks and shelters!....The city of Phoenix announced they will cut 60 jobs, mainly through attrition, saving an estimated $6M. Can you imagine there are at least 60 city of Phoenix jobs paying an average of $100K each, with non-city employees lined up at McDonald's job fairs?
