Az I Eat It....
The Notorious PIG - a.k.a. Hammered Hog - 3230 E. Thunderbird Rd., Phoenix, Az
A very recent food review in the state's most notorious newspaper, The Arizobna Repulsive, says this is a great place to dine. It says this in earlier January 2011, so I set Guy's Night Out(a 7-year, monthly tradition, now), to try this 'newly found' Hog-Heaven. Only thing is, it has not existed since sometime in December 2010! Another site, at Desert Ridge Mall, had closed earlier, and this T-Bird venue has now re-opened, by a previous PIG partner, as the 'Hammered Hog.'
Our waitress(party of 7; Rachel) was very attentive and helpful, but when a couple of other tables became occupied, she was somewhat overwhelmed. But enough about the good times - two of us ordered catfish, hoping that it could approach that of Logan's or Tex-Az Grill. Nope! One smelled, and was left uneaten. Mine was just so-so, and more like fish 'fingers' than filets. One had BBQ Chicken, and said it was 'less than average.' As it got busier(3 tables), the drink refills became more scarce. The BBQ Ribs and Mac & Cheese were evidently very good, but both the baked beans, and the mashed potatoes & gravy were bland and the orders were somewhat small. The dessert menu was limited, but the macadamia cookie Sundae was pretty good. Alas, there are too many other great Rib joints(Texas Roadhouse, Famous Dave's, Tex-Az Grill) to be let down like this. If I ever eat at this place again, I'd have to be Hammered!
