State: Arizona legislators will attempt to alter ASRS rules, so that the employers of formerly 'valued, veteran teachers' who return to work after retirement, are mandated to contribute to the ASRS. The fact that they are not now contributing is why these employees are able to remain employed by a public school system that is less able to afford these higher-salaried teachers, while maintaining quality schools. The increase in cost will most likely cause many of these teachers to be terminated, as new, inexperienced teachers will now cost much less to hire for at least a few years - or until they figure out they are not getting a salary/benefits increase, either! By the way - return to work was actually conceived for administrators who wanted to access their retirement benefits(before they changed for the worse), and yet were not ready to relinquish their careers. Teachers had to go to court(or threaten to) to receive the same treatment. At this time, administrators dominate the payrolls of such companies as smartschoolsplus, inc., and Ed Services, Inc. If these changes are enacted, then teachers will be unemployed - not administrators - because we know who does the hiring and firing, and who does not!
