International: The U.S. State Department confirmed that Steve Martin is en route to Cairo to re-take his rightful place in Egyptian history, as King Tut!....Hosni Mubarak is out! Jon Kyl is leaving! Now, if only we could get Bill O'Reilly to get gone!
National: Bill O'Reilly - FOX News' hired gunman - repeatedly shot down President Obama, during his Super Bowl XLV pre-game interview. In parting, he then (rhetorically, I presume) asked Obama if he agreed that O'Reilly has always treated him fairly. What a joke! Obama could hardly get a word in edgewise, as O'Reilly continually asked questions that he himself would answer, or interrupted the President if he didn't agree with the direction the answer was headed. Please, NFL Commish Roger Goodell, do not sign any contract extensions for any games on any FOX station, or your football seasons will remain unfair and unbalanced - like your present scheduling!....The Arizona Cardinals are 5-point underdogs this week!
State/Local: 60% of Arizona homeowners are underwater in their mortgages. 35% are treading water. The remaining 5% are legislators and bankers and do not care about the other 95%!....Linda Gray(R-Glendale) is proposing to ease Arizona's tough DUI laws - yes - the same laws she fought so hard to enact just a few short years ago. The reason, she claims, is to prevent a much less-punitive modifying proposal from passing. Really, Linda? I can hear the newest scandal breaking into the news already. Some Republican legislator will be charged with his first DUI and not want to be responsible for the fees/fines for the alcohol interlock device on their automobile! And NO, Linda - six(6) months is NOT enough time to teach them a lesson. Their next DUI could take someone's lifetime!....A Maricopa County Superior Court Judge has ruled in favor of Governor Brewer, and the State, that the legislature's promise to appropriate funds is not not a mandate that it must so appropriate. Reminds me of Bill Clinton's, "It depends on what the definition of 'is' is." In this instance, the Judge cited a 1948 Arizona Supreme Court ruling in his affirmation that the the State does not have to fund an inflation index of any kind for public schools, even though they presently do so for transportation issues. The savings to the State - at least $60M annually. Adjusted for inflation, this means that if you buy your child a lottery ticket, you will double his/her chances for success in Arizona!(Dilbert, 2/12/2011)
