The Reel Deal
Midnight in Paris(rated PG-13) - starring Rachel McAdams, Owen Wilson, Kathy Bates, Marion Cotillard, and directed by Woody Allen
First and foremost, this is NOT just another of Paris Hilton's sex tapes. Second, I am NOT a fan of Owen Wilson, generally....but this film was most likely made with him in mind!
Vacationing in France, just prior to his marriage to Inez(McAdams), Gil Pender(Wilson), an aspiring author, is confused about his future - with or without Inez. One night, at midnight, the church bells peal and he is encouraged to attend a party by a passing limo loaded with strangers. Strangers? Turns out he has been swept into the past - a longed-for, simpler life(?) - with the likes of Hemingway, Picasso, Zelda & F. Scott Fitzgerald, Cole Porter, and Gertrude Stein(Bates), among others. His nightly soirees result in a reawakening - and potential new love, with Adriana(Cotillard).
This is more than just a charming love story, but rather a great escape into the minds of lovers everywhere - and the writers assuredly explore the many aspects of the human mind, while entertaining the audience at the same time.
Please see this film. It is one of Allen's best in many years, and you will love it!
