Az I See It....
Prologue: A woman always has the last word in an argument. After that, anything a man says is simply the start of a new argument!
International: Afghanistan President Kharzai is grieving over the recent assassination of his brother - by the terrorists with whom he is often complicit. Maybe now he will fully support the U.S. and NATO Coalition forces to bring these terrorists to their knees. Money does strange things to men of little integrity!....Prince William and Princess Kathryn spent most of their final U.S. tour time visiting Los Angeles' skid row area - and looked very comfortable in their interactions with the less-privileged. I wonder when was the last time ANY U.S. Congressmen spent ANY time outside of their comfort zone?....
National: Intesticle fortitude - Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives(US-HORS), John Boehner(R - OH) told the American public, "Tax increases on the rich cost jobs." If the opposite is then true, then why hasn't the previous ten years of the Bush Administration's tax cuts for the rich produced jobs? We have experienced the highest unemployment rates since the Bush tax cuts were enacted - and then the economy tanked(yes - during the Bush years.) Now, corporations are reporting record profits, while unemployment remains high. Well, Boehner is correct. If President Obama is allowed to increase taxes on the rich, then it will cost jobs - Boehner's job. Republican jobs. Because the kickbacks they have been receiving - in various forms - would have been wasted, if they cannot ensure financial gains from them - for the corporations who give them! I can understand why the 2% of Americans who are rich will vote to re-elect Republicans, and try their damnedest to get rid of Obama, but WHY would the remaining electorate jump on the bandwagon? Do they not realize that they are the poor? Do they think they will become rich by having their meager(compare them to Congress) entitlements taken away or decreased? Are they somehow 'above' poor Democrats? Do they fantasize about a land 'somewhere over the rainbow where bluebirds fly? Why, oh why do they?'
State/Local: The NBA All-Star game(Phoenix); the NHL All-Star game(Glendale); the MLB All-Star game(Phoenix); the NFL Super Bowl(Glendale); the NCAAs Fiesta Bowl(Glendale.) Each of these events foretold to bring hundreds of millions of dollars to Arizona. Afterward, the 'take' is always down-played as being 'lower-than-anticipated.' Must be too many political freebies, huh? Now, the Academy of Country Music Awards is interested in bringing their annual ACM Awards ceremony to the University of Phoenix Stadium, in Glendale, Az., and creating 'a Super Bowl of Country Music,' estimated to reel in $190M. One hitch - it will take an investment of $8M to make it happen, beginning in 2013. Wouldn't you think Glendale Mayor Elaine Scruggs(any relation to country music's Earl Scruggs?), who has already soaked the taxpayers for $50M for the NHL's Phoenix Coyotes, would be willing to invest a meager $8m on a sure thing? Hotels across the Valley; restaurants; tourist attractions; local stores and shops - ALL would be filled. And 70,000 seat stadium would be a guaranteed sell-out, unlike the Coyote games who have the NHL's poorest attendance. Just think, Mayor Scruggs, this one short event could finance your step-child Coyotes for several years!
Epilogue: If at first you don't succeed, try doing it the way your wife told you! Happy Anniversary, Linda!
