It amazes me that sooo many people subscribe to the Republican / Tea Party positions knowing that they are in favor of big business, banks, and low taxes on the wealthy. These are the same people that will be hurt by the Republican positions.

Do they think they will become wealthy by spewing elitist philosophy while they see their Social Security and Medicare disappear?

"Calling" yourself a Republican does not bring wealth. It merely shows that you are willing to blindly follow without thinking.

We need to eliminate the copper penny to save billions of dollars for America.  It costs nearly 2 cents to make a 1 cent coin due to the copper costs.  China is melting the coin as quickly as we can make it...aren't we stupid?  It is no wonder nine more copper mines are being added to the existing 12 copper mines in Arizona.  The 10,000 Arizona copper miners and townspeople near the Arizona mines get cancer four times higher than the norm.  The mines produce toxic waste, which is poured back into the water table and make giant green mountains of non-life sustaining land...aren't we stupid?  People use the dollar bill, but a dollar coin should be introduced because coins last longer than paper money.  A dollar coin is cheaper to make than the paper money.  This extra cost of the dollar coin can be offset by eliminating the penny production.  In time, vending machines will convert to accepting dollar coins, because a coin-accepting machine is less expensive.  Finally, I am sick and tired of putting my dollar bill into a machine and it is rejected.  Great job Arky on your blog.

Editor's note:  I will not walk around with a pocketful of dollar coins, given to me as change from a machine.  Pennies go into a separate jar, for bargaining when the Chinese supposedly come over to claim our land in return for a paper obligation of U.S. debt.  Instead of eliminating the dollar bill, why not eliminate the legislators, saving the taxpayers much more money?

How do you say that "People do not want a hand out - they want a job!" when the people receiving social services "smoke cigarettes at more than $4 per pack", have "smart phones" that cost way more than "$30 per month more than basic phone service", eat at McD's and drink at the local watering holes, wear $100+ sneakers, frost their hair and paint their finger and toenails 20 different patterns? They are certainly not crying poor, but I'm gonna cry out LAZY AZZ! Social services support these behaviors and need to be cut! Not fixed....cut! Fend for yourself! Be a good human being, and maybe another will help you through your troubles out of the goodness in their heart!

Thank you, Arky, for attending the Joke Elder Abuse Awareness Day Open House and supporting us. My wife is dying due to senior abuse by a slumlord that would not fix her leaky sink and mold problem. She is getting worse because of rejection of her transplanted liver. She did not tell you yesterday, but she is going blind and needs her eyes operated on for a 4th time. We did not go to listen to Tom Horne play the piano but to ask him why he has done nothing on our Case for 18 months. We just wrote Channel 3 news since they were the only TV station that covered Senior Abuse yesterday. We are following the retired LA detective's advice that if the law enforcement people do nothing, then get the media involved. It is sad to say but "NO ONE CARES" and we are becoming as cynical as you. However, you are a great friend!

He had many businesses and moved around alot. his wife carol by his side for the last 45 years of his life. AZ was his final resting place where he made friends as he did where ever he went. So many of his friends became my friends, as they all loved him and his unique ways, more direct than most, but always effective. He taught me how to work hard and be the best i could be, he believed in me and made me strong. He loved my wife and my children very much(especially my wifes cooking) God, he loved to eat good food. Iknow he is resting peacfully and as his friend Arky says, he is playing Golf, which by the way he taught me many years ago and its become a passion. I love you Phil for all you have done for me. I miss you big brother and love you always. Your little brother Bob.

    Dear Arky:

Thanks for mentioning the Military Family Relief Fund. We are currently halfway to the million-dollar donation cap, so there are still plenty of tax credits available. Here's your chance to help AZ military families. If you have questions, please visit www.azmfrf.gov or call me at 602-263-1837.

    Happy Holidays!

Actually, my heritage is from Sicily, and if I wanted a nice owner, a sweet hostess, and an attentive waiter, I'd go to the Mallin residence! I seem to recall a tale(from Howie) of both the cheesecake and the creme brulee being terrible(and comped because of it), and the lasagna was awful, too! The owner has been in the valley for many years, and each restaurant has closed, I can assume, from customers deciding that enough was enough(at any price!) Mangia!

Man you are so wrong about this place. Howie and I have gone there and everything was outstandingly wonderful. The owner came out and was very nice, The Hostess was as sweet as can be, came to our table to see if we were enjoying our selves. The waiter was very attentive. Our food was fantastic. Its about time a upscale restrant opened close by. Arky you must be from north italy this was southern Italy and much diffrent from any italian restrant I have ever eated in. We loved every thing about it and can't wait to go back. Also the place is decorated in beautiful taste.

Educators have so much “minutia” to deal with that their “face time” with students is dwindling.
We’re losing teachers at alarming rates and I don’t blame them for leaving the industry.
It’s a complicated problem, yet sometimes going back to the basics is truly the answer.

ALSO Randy and his Mom (Linda) put 2 + 2 together and Figured out that Sammy Their MiniPin who passed away from kidney failure in November ate the Old Roy Brand Dog Food. Menu Foods knew about the poison and started testing December around December 3rd.

My personal feelings is go Organic and try a Local company in Tucson Called Azmira. Goober is in Tempe. Give it a Try, Also Wag & Wash and Smelly Dog also have a good selection, We use Goober Express because they deliver and it is easier for us.

    Hello friends of Goober,

I’m sure that you share our sympathy and concern for the pets and the pet owners affected by the recent recall of dog and cat food products produced by Menu Foods, Inc., a private-label pet food manufacturer based in Streetsville, Ontario, Canada. This recall involves all "cuts and gravy" style dog and cat food produced by Menu Foods at its facility in Emporia, Kansas between December 3, 2006 and March 6, 2007.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has determined that the cause of the problem has been traced to the ingredient wheat gluten which was found to have contained the chemical, melamine. The FDA has banned all further imports of wheat gluten from the Chinese supplier used by Menu Foods.

We are contacting our customers to reassure them that none of the products supplied by Goober Pet Direct are a part of this recall. We carry premium food products that are formulated with the highest quality ingredients. We work closely with our suppliers to understand their production methods, their formulation standards, and their quality control procedures to insure that we are providing only the finest quality products to our customers.

I'd have told you ahead of time to not go there if I could. the head executive chef, and part owner, is a horrible person who has had 4 dui arrests, 2 arrests for spousal assault and abuse, and even though he makes a lot of money at this career he still manages to wipe his ex wife's account out by bouncing child support checks. If he spent more time cooking and less time drowning himself in alcohol, he might deliver a better product.

I find it incredibly hard to believe that the parents of Special Education kids are for this. Children who are used to class sizes of 10-12 students with a teacher and an aid cannot be performing as well thrown into a general education class of 36 students with only 1 teacher! There simply is not enough time in the hour to accommodate all of the needs. Districts have found a way to cut budgets, by having their cost of educating special needs children and calling it progressive.

This year has been crazy with teenage deaths. I know that for my boys they have had about 3 kids either die or nearly die because of this. It is important to talk and let kids know what is going on out there. My boys were surprised and did not realize that this was happening. Since this happened we have talked more and looked into the signs and my boys are more sensitive to this now. They don't look to much into things but if they suspect something they let me or their father know and we sit down and discuss this. I feel it is important to talk and see if there is a real issue or not. The boys have actually spoken with kids and feel much better to discuss this. They just have a hard time understanding why? Just like the rest of us. But you are right why are we wasting money on things that are not as important. Our kids are our future and we need to communicate with them. Our government also needs to prioritize things and stop worrying about other countries and worry about US. The thing with the ELL students did we not pass that English is the only language. So why are we giving into the other languages. Like my brother once told me when we moved to the United States. "When in the USA, do as the Americans." Why is this so hard to follow? People can adapt, but if we continue to do for these people they will never adapt. It all goes back that our government needs to protect its people. Stop worrying about everyone else.
